Cisco UCS 5100 Series Blade Server is an integral part of the Cisco Unified Computing System, providing a scalable, flexible architecture that meets current and future data center needs and helps the lower total cost of ownership.

Cisco UCS 5100 Series Blade Server General Introduction

The Cisco UCS 5100 series blade server chassis is an important building block for the Cisco Unified Computing System, providing a flexible, scalable blade server chassis for today’s and tomorrow’s data centers while helping to reduce TCO.

The Cisco UCS 5108 Blade Chassis is Cisco’s first blade server chassis with a height of 6 rack units (6RU) that can be installed in an industry-standard 19-inch rack. One chassis can accommodate eight half-width Cisco UCS B-Series blade servers supporting half-width and full-width blade chassis.

The Cisco UCS 5108 Blade Chassis supports four single-phase hot-swappable power supplies for front-end access. These power supplies are up to 92% efficient and can be configured for non-redundant, N+1 redundant and N+N redundant configurations. The back end of the chassis includes eight hot-swap fans, four power connectors (one for each power supply), and two I/O bays for the Cisco UCS 2104XP array expansion modules. A passive mid-plane provides up to 20 Gbps of I/O bandwidth per server slot and 40 Gbps of I/O bandwidth for both slots. The chassis can support future 40Gb Ethernet standards.

Cisco UCS 5100 Series Blade Server Feature

The Cisco UCS 5108 revolutionized the use and deployment of blade systems. By adopting unified arrays, integration, and embedded management and array expansion module technology, the Cisco Unified Computing System reduces the physical components of the chassis, eliminates discrete management, and is much more energy efficient than traditional blade server chassis. With this simplicity, specialized chassis management and blade switches are no longer needed, reducing cabling, allowing the Cisco Unified Computing System to scale up to 40 chassis without increasing complexity. The Cisco UCS 5108 chassis is a key component of the Cisco Unified Computing System that simplifies data centers and accelerates IT response speeds.
