Telefónica and NTT Data run 5G slicing pilots in end-to-end multi-vendor scenarios
Telefónica and NTT Data demonstrate a pioneering end-to-end multi-vendor network slice-as-a-service solution, including Cisco SDN transport, Mavenir Open vRAN, Mavenr 5G Converged Packet Core, Nokia 5G RAN with radio resource partitioning, end-to-end orchestration based on ONAP (support for NTT DATA) and NTT DATA ONE OSS ASSURANCE SOLUTIONS. Enables fully automated end-to-end network slicing lifecycle management and service assurance use cases. The architecture is implemented using a hybrid cloud approach, placing the different products involved in the solution in Telefónica Labs and the Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud.
User experience and end-to-end functionality were validated thanks to the participation and collaboration of Cisco, Mavenir, Nokia, device manufacturer Google, OPPO, SIMCom Wireless Solutions Limited and Xiaomi, as well as chipset suppliers MediaTek and Qualcomm Technologies Inc.
The use cases executed require specific service designs and complex multi-domain service orchestration, which is key to achieving network slicing. Testing with commercial products from different vendors not only enables an end-to-end slice in the smartphone ecosystem, but also yields valuable results and insights that will help different parties determine the product definition needed to ensure successful business services.
Telefónica aims to accelerate the network slicing capabilities of its networks and industries. Through its project, called LIME, Telefónica is working with NTT DATA as a key partner to further integrate different network slicing vendor solutions to bring dynamism to a variety of new 5G applications and services.
