Optico Fiber launches the “local first” XGS-PON optical network in Puerto Rico
Optico Fiber announces the launch of the “local first” XGS-PON optical network service in Puerto Rico. The company said: XGS-PON is considered the next generation of fiber optic technology, supporting symmetrical broadband speeds of up to 10Gbps. The entire San Juan metropolitan area will be covered by this upgrade.
Optico Fiber claims to be the first company to deploy XGS-PON technology in Puerto Rico. The upgrade was done seamlessly across the network without disrupting the normal operation of the rest of the company’s network. “Our team has been working nonstop on 10Gbps and network upgrades for more than a year and implemented the XGS-PON upgrade,” said Alexis Ortiz, Managing Director of Optico Fiber. “XGS facilitates gigabit fiber-based internet service and has proven to be not only faster, but also more reliable and more resilient to intermittent power outages and other weather impacts than traditional cable infrastructure. Seamless multigigabit broadband internet is a game-changer. He added.
